Marcia is the daughter of the late founder and owner of Owens Supply Company, Harry Owens. Prior to starting her lifelong career at Owens Supply Company, Marcia graduated as Valedictorian from Bryan County High School in 1976. She was well known among her peers as “speedy fingers”.
She was quick on the typewriter and could out type everyone in her class, including the teacher. Marcia breezed through Home Economics. She learned how to sew and cook long before taking any courses. She contributes all of her home making skills to her Mother Elvie and Grandmother Edith.
In addition, Marcia loved and excelled in Mathematics. She completed all of her classes and earned enough credits to finish her senior year early. In April of 1976 she began working full time at Owens Supply, as the bookkeeper. Her late husband, Terry, started work at the same time. He began working as part of the warehouse crew.
Terry and Marcia became the owners of Owens Supply Company in 1995. They worked together for 42 years before he passed away in December 2018. Of the 45 years in business, Marcia says that she's done a little of it all. The only thing that she has not learned how to do is drive a forklift and the Kenworth truck [which would require a CDL]. She has both on her bucket list and hopes to accomplish them one day. Although Marcia has enjoyed working all of these years she says, “there's nothing like being a mother to my 3 children, grandmother, and a caregiver [to Debbie].”
